Supply and demand in terms of Turkish hazelnuts remains very thin, but pricing finally seems to stabilize at current levels. This means a decreasing trend for the export market, given the weakening Turkish Lira. The export figures, as released earlier this month, showed that Turkey is well behind in terms of exports with last year. However, it is questioned up to which extend these figures reflect the actual position of commitments, as the gap physical shipments and commitments remains unclear. The combination of basically the same uncertain factors as always – which can be summarized as TMO & exchange rate, larger buyer & free market, crop & availability – makes it hard to say how long the market will remain in these calmer waters.
