Walnuts December 9, 2021

Prices from all origins seem to be under pressure at the moment. Starting with Eastern-Europe, the season began rather late this year, resulting in pipelines of industrial grades not being as full as usual. However, the peak in demand for product from Eastern-Europe seems to behind us. Based on the current price development, which is line with the historical price development, most buyers are comfortable to cover hand to mouth. At the same time prices in California are under pressure as well, especially on combination grade. Californian suppliers are rather aggressive at the moment, as demand is slow and continues issues on sea freight are not helping to ship out decent quantities of product either. Overall walnuts can be considered as a buyer’s market at the moment, with no relief expected on the short term based on available quantities and ‘only’ six moths to go till the Chilean crop.
