The situation in Eastern- Europe didn’t change much since the end of December. Due to the dry summer last year, many crops were down. As availability was less, prices for raw material increased and total volumes exported were impacted. Currently availability is very very limited and we would recommend to cover your requirements
Russia lifted the import ban, because they needed imported product to supply the market as they do not have enough crop themselves
The interest for Californian Walnuts is and remains strong. December was another record shipment month. The strong export figures are giving the Californian exporters a comfortable feeling and not in a hurry to sell anymore.
Spot market is tight and as for the Eastern European Walnutkernels, our recommendation is to cover your demand until new crop
New crop so far is developing good. Nice rains and snowfall are taking care of enough water supply and crop could end up between 140-150.000 tons.
